Sir Peter Robert Grainger

Peter Robert Grainger was born on the 28th of November, 1953 at Stretford Memorial hospital in Manchester. The proud son of his loving parents, Bob and Joan.

His schooling began at The Old Moat School in Withington, Manchester. Then, at the age of nine the family moved to Barlow Moor Road in Chorlton, Manchester.

Bob was gradually becoming more successful in his business, selling Government surplus clothing. So he invested in Peters education and sent him to Moor Allerton, a local private school.

After four years at the private school, Peter then attended Chorlton Grammar School. Soon after he contracted a rare disease that left him blind, epileptic, and partially paralysed – loosing the use of both his legs.
After many months in hospital he found light at the end of the tunnel as the medical profession recognised his condition and administered the corrective medicines.

Peter, like his Dad, had two passions in life, motor racing and Manchester United Football Club.

Peters Dad, before his passing, held the record at Oulton Park Racing Circuit as he passed the two thousand mark. Peter wasn’t too far behind, picking up the record for the youngest ever trained marshall.

Peter attended every game at Manchester United and was interviewed for the position of Steward, eventually becoming Head Steward of the famous ‘Stretford End’ before it was made compulsory to be seated.

Peter also started his motor racing passion by racing Superkarts. His achievements on the track were recognised, and he was selected to race in the British team competing at all the major long circuit venues, including a World Championship at Le Mans.

Peter became an agent for a very successful company called, Regatta Ltd., the very company his Dad helped to establish thirty years prior.
As Peter and Regatta flourished he also enjoyed a very successful run in sports car racing, winning many races and championships.

When Peters father passed it was hard for him. He became a man and promised to look after his mother to the end. Unfortunately Peters mother contracted Alzheimers.

If you know Peter well, he will tell you that this was the hardest time of his life as he eventually sold his home to look after his Mum 24/7.

Those of you fortunate enough to know Peter will confirm just how much time he devotes to worthy causes. He has indirectly collected hundreds of thousands of pounds for so many charitable causes.

In 2018 we nearly lost Peter to a brain haemorrhage whilst he was attending a race meeting at Goodwood. After months of rehabilitation, Peter achieved yet another goal by climbing Snowden, the highest mountain in Wales.

Those of you who are fortunate enough to know Peter will be aware of just how much time he devotes to worthy causes. He has indirectly collected hundreds of thousands of pounds for numerous charitable causes.
Peters charity work has been recognised in the borough of Altrincham, Cheshire by the Rotarians, who in turn invited Peter into their fold where he still remains an upstanding member.
